Marion Lee Pinckney

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE: On February 24, 1939, Marion Lee Pinckney was one of seven children born to Henry and Mabel (Givance) Pinckney in St. Matthews, South Carolina. After his mother’s early death, Marion relocated to Passaic, NJ to be further mothered by his loving Aunt Nettie (Moss). With this move he gained another brother, Roland (Sonny) Moss. Marion started his education in South Carolina and finished the twelfth grade at Passaic High School. On February 18, 1961 Marion married Barbara (Allen) Pinckney. From this union they were blessed with three children: David, Robin and Michael. He also had a daughter, Sharon Dye (deceased) whom he loved dearly. Marion was a machinist by trade but was a craftsman of many skills. He was admired and respected in his knowledge of auto mechanics, carpentry, plumbing and so much more. God’s gift to him were his hands which he used daily to bless and mentor others. He shared his expertise with anyone willing to learn. Marion joined Union Baptist Church at an early age. He LOVED his church. He was constantly seen inside and outside of the church fulfilling his Trustee duties and beyond as a devoted caregiver. He loved singing in the church choir and male chorus. In 2006 Marion returned to his birth home in St. Matthews, South Carolina. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and planting his garden, which he indulged in until his health deemed it too much. Marion leaves behind a legacy of family values. He had a special and strong family bond with his aunts, uncles and cousins from all sides of his family. He did not show partiality in how he loved his cousins. To him, they were like his siblings. Marion loved any type of family gathering and did not hesitate to travel near or far! He made sure his children and grandchildren knew their family members and understood that no matter what - family sticks together. He fought a hard battle with his health. He finally succumbed peacefully to take God’s out-stretched hand to join his predeceased siblings and loved ones. When asked what he wanted to be remembered for, his response was - he wanted to be remembered as a person who loved his family dearly and was a hard worker. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, his three children, dedicated daughter-in-law/love, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sister Shirley Mills, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family - to cherish his memories and celebrate his legacy of life and love.
