Lucy "Cookie" Lowery

Lucy Ella Ernestine Davenport Lowery, affectionately known to most as “Cookie” was born June 25th, 1947 in Paterson, N.J. to the late Lucy (Johnson) and Perry M. Davenport Sr. Cookie grew up in Paterson, N.J. and graduated from the Paterson Public School System. Following her graduation she went on to receive her certification from the Business Educational Skills Training Program, Paterson, N.J. After receiving her certification, she obtained employment as a clerk typist/secretary with the City of Paterson, N. J. She remained employed for over thirty three years in different positions for the City of Paterson. Prior to her retirement, she held the position of City of Paterson Co- Coordinator Supervisor of Special Recreation Events. Lucy met and married the love of her life Jasper aka Larry Lowery. He nicknamed her “Peaches”. From that day on she became his “Peaches”. Lucy had one child Kimberly, which they raised together. Cookie was brought up in a faith based family. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and she always prayed for others before praying for herself. She believed in helping others with mental health issues and assisted people with financial blessings. Ms. Cookie always remembered people’s faces and names. People loved Ms. Cookie and she loved them back. In her younger days people described Ms. Cookie as a fashion loving glamour girl with long black flowing hair who loved to dress. She also loved music and dancing and was known as the finger popping Diva. Her favorite artists were Shirley Caesar and Patti La Belle. She was an avid reader, writer, edit specialist and decorator who loved to organize special events and always had an eye for details. She has served as an advisor to young and old and was a problem solver. Cookie loved her grandchildren, her fur babies and she had a special relationship with her goldfish “Greedy” who allowed her to stroke him. Cookie was well known for her culinary skills and one of her expressions of love was organizing events at her home. She and Larry, her husband of 24 years knew how to throw a party where all felt welcome. She is known for her potato salad and huge piles of meat; especially chicken wings, steaks, crabs, shrimp, pork chops, and the biggest ribs you ever seen. She loves puzzles, playing spades, watching her Soaps and Western programs, while enjoying her salami, devil dogs and her infamous “Pepsi.” She was a photo collector. Exchanging time for eternity Cookie entered eternal rest on December 12,2022 . She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jasper(Larry)Lowery, parents Perry Sr. and Lucy Davenport, sisters Colene Mayo, Ira Moore, Marion Wood, Sally Burns, Shirley Davenport, brother Perry ”Junie” Davenport Jr., sister in law Elvie Lowery, brother in laws James Wilson Mayo, Benjamin Miller Sr., Henry Burns, Rev. Dr. Richard Wood and the Lowery brothers, nephews Benjamin Miller Jr., Clinton Battle and John Hogan and her late besties, Mercedes, Leonia Watson, Katherine( Moochie)Hill, Diane Wallace, Victoria(Vicky) Hood, Beatrice Struck, Claire Pagano and Keva George. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Kimberly Townes- Chestnut of Easton, Pa.(Flint of Paterson, NJ) , special like son Gerard Kinchen , of Paterson, NJ., grandchildren Shataana Chestnut, Tauria Chestnut, Tanaiszia Chestnut, Justin Kinchen, all of Paterson N. J., KimberLee Eke of Clifton ,N.J, great grandchildren Elijah O’Connor, Isaiah O’Connor, Jor’Dan Jackson, Mekhi Walker, Jonathan Warren, Zion Warren, Trinity Harris, Serenity Ladson, Jeremiah Chestnut, Asher Sparks, Jaques Sparks, Ja’Nala Sparks all of Paterson ,N.J.,Shimei Nero, Sarai Harris, Sanaa Harris, Shiloh Harris, all of Clifton, N.J., her grand fur babies Twilight Townes, Princess and Nayla O’ Connor, sisters Vera West Miller of Belleville, N.J., and Carrie Davenport of Paterson, N.J., brother in law Stanley Moore of Bumpass, VA, godchildren Reuben, Bruce Hill, Bonita Wallace, and Tyron Hatcher all of N.J., long time loving sister friends, Betty Alexander, Lois Shepperson, Carrie McQuire, Helen Kennedy, all of Paterson N.J., Charlene Miller- York Mann, Statesboro, Ga.,, Marcia Sotorrio, NJ., Jereleen (Al) Thompson of Tempe, Az., City sons Jimmy Salmon, Charles “Sir Debonair” Williams Schultz, Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly and Duke Dangerfield all of NJ, and a host of other relatives and friends. Her memories will live in our hearts and her legacy of love will be cherished. She will be greatly missed.
