Remembering Bro. Milton Gabreselas Darby On January 25, 2024, God in His infinite Wisdom called Brother Gabreselas Milton Darby from his labor to his reward. Brother Darby was born in Harlem, New York. He was predeceased by his Father Deacon Orris Darby and Mother Edna Darby along with his Brothers William Orris Darby, Reginald Monroe Darby, Leroy Darby and Sisters; Eliod Haith, Marlene Cunningham and Miriam Choudry. He also had a host of Nieces and Nephews. Throughout his early years, Brother Darby attended the New York City School System. He graduated from Morris High School located in the South Bronx, NY. Brother Gabreselas Milton Darby was proud to acknowledge he attended Morris High School in Bronx, NY with the former Secretary of State Colin Powell. His parents eventually relocated from the South Bronx, New York to Passaic, New Jersey. His father continued to work in the Garment District in lower Manhattan. Brother Darby was the youngest of his six siblings. At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Throughout the years, Brother Darby served as the Organist and Pianist for several Churches throughout New Jersey. For many years, he proudly served as the Organist and Pianist at Mount Zion Baptist Church of Passaic, NJ under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. James H. Howell. After the passing of Reverend Dr. James H. Howell, Mount Zion Baptist Church elected Pastor Julius B. Hargett, Sr. as their new Shepherd. Throughout his Christian journey, Brother Darby sang with several Gospel Artists. He sang with the Flanagan Singers and appeared on the televised Alma John Show. Bro. Gabreselas Milton Darby was also a Historian. He loved sharing his knowledge of Black History with others. Bro. Darby loved collecting Artwork and taking photos. The Bible tells us in Hosea Chapter 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God. Brother Darby was an avid traveler. He traveled to many destinations within the United States and Abroad. He loved learning about different cultures. Bro Gabreselas Milton Darby always wanted to share his experiences with young people. His Grandfather Rev. John Bowman was the Pastor of the Mount Olive Baptist Church located in Petersburg, VA. Several years ago, Bro. Gabreselas Milton Darby traveled to Mount Olive Baptist Church, located in Petersburg, VA for their Annual Church Anniversary. He wanted to be a part of the celebration since his Grand-father was the Founder Mount Olive Baptist Church. His Mother Edna Darby was the Grand-Daughter of the late Rev. George W. Bowman. Brother Gabreselas Milton Darby was employed for over 10 years as a Health Care Worker at the Daughter’s of Miriam Convelesant Nursing Home located in Clifton, NJ. He was also employed at the American Biscuits Company located in Passaic, NJ. Brother Gabreselas Milton Darby traveled all over the world. However, his true passion was Photography. He loved taking photos. Bro. Darby was always “Camera Ready”. If he saw something or someone of interest, he would stop and ask the person to pose for a picture. Brother Gabreselas Milton Darby was a true Missionary. He always cared for those who were less fortunate. Every day, rain sleet or snow, he would take public transportation from East Orange, NJ to Newark Penn Station to feed those in need. He truly believed in caring for others. As it is written in John 6:35. ‘Then Jesus declared. “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. Bro. Gabreselas Darby would fill his bags with enough food, fruits and juices to bless the homeless who couldn’t get up and do for themselves. He was not only a believer of the Word of God…he was a doer of the Word of God. He was a unique individual. He was well known and respected throughout his community. The family of Bro. Gabreselas Milton Darby want to give a special Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Rutty and Family for their unwavering love, kindness, support they have shown throughout the years to our beloved Uncle. They’ve been a blessing to him for many years. To the dear Family and Friends gathered here today. We appreciate you being a part of this Homegoing Service. Bro. Gabreselas Milton Darby’s work is done here on earth. He’s seated in Heaven beside his Mother, Father, Brothers and Sisters. Bro. Gabreselas Milton Darby has completed his mission on earth. He paved the way for the next generation to pick-up the Blood-stained banner. He was a living example of how to show compassion to those in need. Those who are less fortunate. Let us honor Bro. Gabreselas Milton Darby today. To honor him, let us do something kind for someone in need. That is the best way to honor the legacy of our beloved Friend and Uncle Gabreselas Milton Darby.
